Equisse Three - 'Form vs Function'

This week we are required to create two scaled mock-ups of a structure designed to hold the human body. Chair is the best product which can hold a human body very well. So, i decided to design 2 chair scaled mock-ups to complete this week topic; form vs function.

Function Model

I was trying to designed a chaise lounge which can support every single parts of human body. Comfortable is very important for people who look for a function chair so i designed it based on the words comfortable and relax. As you see the structure of the chair is quite familiar for people who has seen the masterpiece of Le Corbusier, LC4 Chaise Longue. I followed the structure of LC4 because the reclining position is still recommended by orthopedists today. The design is jointed with many pieces of woods so that it won't make u feel hot no matter how long u had seat on it and also the adjustable back allow you to read or sleep on the chair. On the other hand, the only bad side of the chair is user can't move around with the chair as they like.

Form Model

This next piece of chair is a form design. As we know form chair means that it can be any design you want as long as it can show the unique of the model or you can say a chair not to sit but a sculpture to appreciate with your eyes. So, i designed the chair based on nature, flower is one of the nature category and when the first second you see the chair the word flower might cross your mind because i used wire to play with flower. Besides, the chair also represent a glass of cocktail with decoration. Even though the chair doesn't look comfortable, it definitely can support human body. But how to separate the parts instead of one piece then it would be much more easy to produce it is the only thing i realized that i need to refine it.
